Marcel Proust
Known for my warmth, depth of listening and emotional intelligence, I am also appreciated for my rigor with language, attention to the non-verbal and somatic expression. Bringing awareness to these areas and posing sometimes challenging questions for reflection opens my client to a different way of seeing the world, thus facilitating new actions (Transactional Coaching) and ways of being (Transformational Coaching). Further supported by practical tools and practices, transformational and sustainable results become available for the client who is ready to create a new life experience.
My love for tropical breezes has brought me back to my original island home of St. Croix USVI part of the year. My other favorite home in Ojai California allows me the best of both worlds. When not on the job, I am learning something new, walking, swimming, snorkeling, playing pickleball, adventuring, spending time with my two adult daughters and their families or visiting friends.
I use a holistic approach. For example, if my client is preparing for a difficult conversation, my client will be well grounded in the following:
1) is aware of the proper timing and appropriate emotion in which the conversation is entered
2) has identified the best language for a win-win outcome
3) has facility in speaking those words (imagine a professional athlete or musician knowing/being the moves by rote)
4) has awareness of their non-verbal and somatic expressions, and knows how to make adjustments aligned with their goal.
This combination is what I affectionately call “cross-training".
Coaching finds its way into the areas that need tending. It is both focused and holistic at the same time. Quoting the words of Jon Kabat-Zinn who said it quite succinctly: "Wherever you go, there you are”. When I look at these words through the lens of a coach, we each show up in multiple life domains. So, if there's a hiccup in one area of life, it's likely to show up in another. Coaching enters, interrupts and improves each area of life. It can't not!
I find my most successful clients have had at least a decade of work under their belts and are facing developmental life challenges in the area of family, career, leadership, communication and/or relationship.
Specializing in Ontological Coaching for 30+ years, I have had the privilege of studying with some founders in the field and subsequently working with people worldwide from corporate executives and managers, to students and aspiring coaches. Transformational leadership has the capacity, in my view, to change the world one heart at a time. I feel forever changed and grateful to have found work I love; work that continues to feed my insatiable quest for knowledge and wisdom in a field that is growing at an accelerated rate.
